I read a news article just the other day claiming that a majority of Christians erroneously believe Christianity is under attack from a variety of secular forces.
The article essentially ridiculed the idea, claiming that Christians have just become too sensitive to any form of criticism whatsoever, and have grown way too used to being the predominant religious fixture in today’s “shifting demographic landscape.”
That’s double talk, of course.
It’s the people from the so-called “shifting demographic landscape” that have become too sensitive to any kind of criticism. And it’s abundantly clear that this same non-Christian demographic is becoming decidedly anti-Christian in character.
And by “anti-Christian” I don’t mean they’re merely against Christianity in their own personal life. No. They take it much further than that. They seek to replace Christianity entirely, with their own secular humanist version of heaven on earth – the one where Christians are ground into the dirt under the soles of non-Christian feet.
The term “snowflakes” has been used to describe one portion of this non-Christian demographic, because the minute they come into contact with a little “heat” – meaning anyone or any idea they find disagreeable to their lifestyle choices – they have a mental and emotional meltdown over it.
Yep. When faced with arguments they know they can’t win, they shift immediately into screaming fits, yelling “Bigotry!” or “Racism!” or “Homophobia” or “Anti-Semitism!” or “Intolerant!” or whatever label they choose to use as a means of short-circuiting the argument so they don’t have to reasonably justify their nonsense.
In reality, they’re the ones not practicing the “tolerance,” but instead, expecting people to rigidly and without hesitation bend to their wishes (which they now call “rights”) and personal foibles and sins (which they now call their “identity”).
A quick look at the news tells a different tale about the discrimination and persecution being faced by Christians these days. Here are just a few examples of the way Christians are being treated in this country:
- Twin Cities School Bus Driver Removed after Leading Prayer
A Twin Cities-area school bus driver, George Nathaniel, says his rights to free speech and to practice his religion were violated when he was taken off his route for leading students in prayer. Nathaniel says he wants to turn people to Christianity, but he never forced students to pray.
Of course, critics of Mr. Nathaniel say he has no right to pray or preach in a public venue, because religion should be separate from the public enterprises. But Christ said, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” He didn’t say, “Conform to the ways of the world.”
So Christians today are faced with the choices of disloyalty to their Lord and Savior, or disloyalty to anti-Christian secular tradition disguised as “law.”
- Could a California Bill Ultimately Lead to the Banning of Bibles?
According to this news article, “A pro-LGBTQ bill is quickly making its way through the California state assembly after it was approved on the floor Thursday… If passed, Assembly Bill 2943 could ultimately threaten free speech and freedom of religion for Christians.”
The proposed new law would apparently “use the state’s consumer fraud statute to restrict religious freedom and free speech when it comes to issues of homosexuality and gender identity.” In essence, the law would make it “illegal to distribute resources, sell books, offer counseling services, or direct someone to a biblically based model for getting help with gender confusion and homosexuality.”
I can remember several years back when a Canadian preacher was arrested and convicted of “hate crime” laws, simply for handing out Bible tracts that listed each verse in the Bible in which homosexuality was referred to as being sinful. American Christians were aghast that this could happen to Christians in Canada. But we were all assured that in America this could “never happen” because we have “free speech” and “religious freedom.”
As Sponge Bob would say, “Good luck with that, folks.” The days of unfettered free speech that made this country such a marketplace of ideas are over. And the proposed California bill that would label it “consumer fraud” if you “direct someone to a biblically based model for getting help with gender confusion and homosexuality” is just another example of how bad things are becoming.
- S. Supreme Court Declines Appeal of Ruling Against Pastor Who Preaches Outside Planned Parenthood
According to this news article, a Maine minister named Andrew March, who has asserted that he was being unlawfully targeted by police outside of a Planned Parenthood facility for his pro-life preaching, has had his appeal turned down by the U.S. Supreme court.
March and members of his congregation had been targeted by local police for preaching “too loudly” near the Planned Parenthood facility. March then sued Maine Attorney General Janet Mills, a pro-abortion Democrat, because she had filed a civil rights lawsuit against a member of March’s church in order to force him to stand at least 50 feet away from any Planned Parenthood facility in the state.
Surprisingly, March won his suit. But his win was later overturned by the First Circuit Court of Appeals. So he appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, but that court has now “declined to take up the appeal…and Planned Parenthood of Northern New England cheered the decision.”
Again, Christians are ordered by Christ to “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
But more and more often that act of preaching publicly is being criminalized, and the raw force of law is being unleashed upon Christians who practice it.
- Army Chaplain Facing Possible Discipline for Declining to Conduct Marriage Retreat After Lesbian Signs Up
According to this news article, “A Southern Baptist Army chaplain is pushing back after a military investigator concluded that he discriminated against a lesbian woman by declining to conduct a marriage retreat after learning that she had signed up to attend the event with her [lesbian] partner.”
In reality, the Chaplain, Scott Squires, simply moved the date of the retreat to another time so a different chaplain could lead it, instead of himself.
In other words, rather than violate his personal Christian beliefs against condoning the sin of homosexuality, the chaplain simply re-scheduled the marriage retreat and asked someone else to lead it. But one of the lesbians filed an equal opportunity complaint against Chaplain Squires, and an “Army equal opportunity investigator” concluded his action of re-scheduling the retreat amounted to “discrimination” against the lesbian couple.
So now, in essence, Christians are being forced to condone and affirm homosexual relationships, or face disciplinary action if they don’t.
While God’s Word says “Neither be partaker of other men’s sins; keep thyself pure” (1 Timothy 5:22), the law of man now says Christians have no choice but to participate in and validate the sins of others, or face discrimination charges.
- Oklahoma House Panel Advances Bill Protecting Religious Convictions of Adoption Agencies
According to this news article, homosexual advocacy groups are decrying a proposed new bill in Oklahoma that would prohibit private, faith-based adoption agencies from being required to place children with homosexual couples. The bill, SB 1140, reads very simply as follows:
“To the extent allowed by federal law, no private child-placing agency receiving neither federal nor state funds shall be required to perform, assist, counsel, recommend, consent to, refer, or participate in any placement of a child for foster care or adoption when the proposed placement would violate the agency’s written religious or moral convictions or policies.”
The proposed bill is said to have become necessary after private, faith-based adoption agencies in other states have been forced to place babies with homosexual couples, thus violating their Christian beliefs.
The article above quotes the great British Christian preacher Charles Spurgeon as saying, ““I cannot suppose that at the last great day, our Lord Jesus Christ will say to everyone, ‘You were not worldly enough….You did not sufficiently conform to the world.’”
Yet so it is that we’ve reached the time when Christians are actually have to push for protective legislation allowing them to practice their Christian beliefs without being forced into worldliness and sinful behavior.
- New CBS Sitcom ‘Living Biblically’ Decried as ‘Hollywood Mockery of Christians’
A new CBS situation comedy apparently ridicules Christian beliefs by making the Christian characters in the show look like self-righteous, mentally unbalanced buffoons while the non-Christians are portrayed as the normal, hard-working people.
According to this news article, one prominent Christian pastor who has seen the show states:
“If CBS were honest, the series would more accurately be titled ‘Living Blasphemously,’ as it is simply more Hollywood mockery of Christians, God’s word and the Lord Jesus Christ….The script for Living Biblically reads like it has been written by your typical, cynical, atheistic, internet trolls, as the story lines feed into almost every stereotypical caricature of Christianity that we find on the World Wide Web.”
In other words, in Hollywood it’s open season on Christians. But then, it has been for a long, long time now, hasn’t it?
- Atheist Activist Group Wants to Stop Pastor From Offering Lunchtime Bible Study at School
In the news article at this link, we learn that “One of the nation’s most conspicuous atheist activist groups is seeking to stop an Ohio pastor from holding a voluntary lunchtime Bible study for students at a local middle school.”
The atheist group, known as the Freedom From Religion Foundation, further calls the pastor’s Gospel presentations, “predatory conduct.”
The fact that the Bible study sessions are completely voluntary, and are only attended by students who are interested, apparently doesn’t faze the atheist group in the least. According to a spokesperson for the group:
“It makes no difference that students are not required to attend these preaching sessions. Voluntariness does not excuse a constitutional violation. The district must immediately discontinue allowing Mr. Bauman, or any other preachers, access to students during the school day.”
According to Pastor Bauman, who leads the voluntary Bible study group, up to 165 students at a time have willingly attended. Regarding one of the meetings, he states:
“I shared the gospel with them using Romans 6:23 as the touchstone verse. None of the kids in any of the four Bible study groups even knew what the word ‘gospel’ meant, so I was able to share with them the significance of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The kids were very responsive to the message and we had 30 of them request Bibles because they didn’t own one, so next week, we will be bringing them Bibles.”
As you can see, what the atheist group was actually responding to was the success of Pastor Bauman in reaching the students with a Christian message, more so than the message itself. Stopping the spread of Christianity among young people by casting the actions of preachers as “predatory” and “unconstitutional” is the ultimate goal.
So What Do You Think?
These are just a tiny handful of the recent news headlines I could write about. But I think you get the picture.
What a world we now live in, folks. So is Christianity under attack in America? Or are Christians simply too thin-skinned and imagining it all? I’ll leave that up to you to decide for yourself.
But as it’s written of what Christians are to expect from people in the final days of this flesh earth age:
2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2Ti 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
2Ti 3:9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
And that’s pretty much what we see going on in the world today, including right here in the world’s last bastion of Christianity, the United States of America.
But what’s the solution? It’s to keep doing God’s work in the face of the ever-growing dangers, and claiming His promises. Which ones? Well, here’s a couple that might fit the bill, I think you’ll agree, for Christians who continue to act in faith on God’s Word as the times of the end grow darker:
Isa 54:14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.
Isa 54:15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.
Isa 54:16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.
Isa 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
